A daily newspaper journalist has been shortlisted for an award aimed at writers of short non-fiction. Dani Garavelli, of Glasgow-based daily The Herald, has made the shortlist for the 2025 Anne Brown Essay Prize. The award, which comes with a £1,500 cash prize, is organised by the Wigtown Book Festival in association with The Herald. Dani, pictured, will discover whether she has won the prize this coming Sunday. The award commemorates Anne Brown, former chair of the Wigtown Book Festival, who also had a distinguished career as a BBC radio journalist and senior producer, who died in 2021.
