A potential U.S. government shutdown stems from Congress’s failure to agree on funding beyond September.
Republicans hold both chambers but lack the 60 Senate votes needed to push through a spending bill on their own.
While the House has already passed a stopgap funding measure, the bill remains stalled in the Senate, keeping the risk of a shutdown alive.
Funding for the US government will be cut off at the end of Tuesday if the Senate does not pass the bill.
If there is a suspension of data releases the Federal Reserve's Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will be flying blind into its next meeting.
