The Uttar Pradesh Police have initiated an inquiry into a complaint alleging that two brothers managed to secure jobs in the force on compensatory grounds after the death of their father. Police said the elder brother, who had joined the police through this route, retired from service last year, while the younger brother continues to serve in the department. Nearly 11 years later, in 1997, his younger brother also entered the police force as a constable in Meerut. Over the years, the elder brother rose through the ranks and was eventually promoted to the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (Administration). As a precautionary measure, the police department has withheld pension and retirement benefits of the elder brother, said an officer.
