A 70-year-old commercial farmer in the Otavi district was reportedly found in possession of a dried cheetah skin last Thursday.
The farmer is accused of shooting and killing a cheetah in May, skinning it and storing the dried skin at his farm for an unknown reason, said Mbeha.
An intelligence-driven operation led to the discovery of the skin on his farm on 25 September, Mbeha added.
“The commercial farmer allegedly reported the killing of the cheetah to some police officers in Windhoek in May, after it had allegedly preyed on some of the wild animals in the same commercial farm,” Mbeha said.
The cheetah skin is estimated to have a street value of N$60 000, said the police officer.
