Beu’s attorney, Colin Bell, accused the city of wasting taxpayer dollars on a five-year smear campaign of baseless allegations against the police chief. “Chief Beu was accused of terrible misconduct and was the target of nationwide media coverage criticizing him for those accusations,” Bell said. As part of that case, Beu was also accused of failing to recuse himself from a disciplinary matter involving an officer who is the father of his grandchild. The city accuses Beu of incompetence, neglect of duty and conduct unbecoming a public employee due to violations of internal affairs rules. The violations involve seven department internal affairs investigations.
