Operaciones Portuarias Canarias (OPC) tasked Boldyn Networks with deploying and operating a private 5G network at a major container terminal, seeking to boost the efficiency of the logistics operations by improving staff connectivity and digitising cranes. Boldyn Networks noted STS cranes are typically connected through fibre, meaning the private 5G deployment will obviate that and any related civil engineering works. Its deal may be expanded in future based on a joint assessment of the performance of the private 5G network. Boldyn Networks stated the Port of Las Palmas is the largest container terminal in the Canary Islands, with direct connections to 74 other global ports and located on key shipping routes between Europe, Africa and South America. The OPC deal continues a run of 5G and private network wins for Boldyn Networks in 2025, the most recent of which is also set to use Nokia equipment.
