Four students from Kampala International University (KIU)-Ishaka campus have been critically injured in a road accident along the Katwe–Kabatoro–Kasese road. According to police, the group was returning from a sightseeing trip to Queen Elizabeth national park, one of Uganda’s top tourist destinations. Nelson Tumushime, Rwenzori East Regional police spokesperson, said officers from Katwe-Kabatoro Division responded quickly and evacuated the injured to Mt. “Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was travelling at excessive speed, which likely caused the driver to lose control,” Tumushime said, adding that patrols along major roads in Kasese district have been intensified to curb reckless driving. Kasese, an access point to major national parks and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) border, has recorded a rise in traffic accidents, often linked to overspeeding and driver fatigue.
