And because of human use of the physical geography, there was a primary East-West route that followed fairly closely to 35th and 36th Streets.
Hosmer Library, first known as the 36th Street Branch, opened in 1916 at the corner of 36th Street and 4th Ave South.
But likely to the mayor’s chagrin, the first organizing effort of this group was to protest one significant impact of the 35W project: turning 35th and 36th Streets into one-way streets.
