China’s first AAA game, Black Myth: Wukong, won Best Action Game at The Game Awards (TGA) 2024, an annual event that is often described as the Oscars of the gaming industry.
The Journey to the West-inspired title was nominated in four categories — Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Action Game, and Best Art Direction — and was the first Chinese game to receive a Game of the Year nomination at the awards.
Although Chinese players had high hopes for Black Myth: Wukong to win the top award, it was Sony’s Astro Bot that took home the Game of the Year.
Black Myth: Wukong, developed by the independent studio Game Science over seven years, hit a peak of over 2.2 million concurrent players on Steam on its launch day, August 20.
