Margaret "Peggy" E. Nies, 84, of Logansport, passed away peacefully Aug. 3, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Born Dec. 26, 1940, to the late Charles and Agnes (Kinsler) Murphy in Logansport. On July 6, 1961, she married Walter Thomas Nies in South Bend, Indiana, who proceeded her in death on Oct. 22, 2008.
Peggy graduated from Logansport High School in 1959, and then went on to Holy Cross Central School of Nursing in South Bend, graduating in 1961. From there, she was a registered nurse and office manager for Dr. Glendening for 33 years before retiring. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Florence Nightengale Club, Mary Dykeman Guild of Memorial Hospital and enjoyed volunteer work for the church.
Surviving her include two daughters, Debbie (Ken) Keen of Spring Lake, North Carolina, and Nancy (Randy) Hughes of Logansport; two sons, Thomas C. (Kristy) Nies of Lebanon, Indiana, and John Nies of Logansport; five granddaughters, Lyndsey (Matt) Davis of Charleston, South Carolina, Paige (David) Wilson of North Carolina, Kendra (Kris) Wright of Washington, Heidi (Adam) Binney of Logansport and Elizabeth (Adam) Durr of Sheridan, Indiana; six grandsons, Austin Hughes of Logansport, Casey (Sunny) Hughes of Sheridan, Indiana, Bradley (Taylor) Nies of Carmel, Indiana, Jonathon Nies of Sheridan, Indiana, Zachary Nies, Lebanon, Indiana, Nicholas Nies, Lebanon, Indiana; several great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends to mourn her passing.
She is preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Brindle, Irene Brugh and Teresa Barlow; her parents; and husband.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, in All Saints Catholic Church, with Father Kyle Neterer officiating. A burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025, at the Gundrum Funeral Home.
