JD Logistics will recruit full-time couriers to support the rapid growth of JD.com’s food delivery business, according to a filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange on Wednesday.
The company said the move was designed to improve operational efficiency and strengthen last-mile delivery services.
JD.com’s food delivery now fulfils more than 25 million daily orders after just over four months of service, with over 1.2 million restaurants onboard and more than 120,000 full-time couriers.
JD.com chairman Richard Liu said up to 4,000 couriers are being hired daily, pushing total staff toward 900,000 by the quarter’s end.
JD Logistics shares rose 7.15% on Wednesday, closing at HK$13.18 ($1.68).
