Ruby L. Palmer, 94, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, at her home. She was born on Sept. 28, 1930, in Broadway, Ohio, the daughter of Lowell A. Fisher and Blanche (Becker) Fisher. Ruby dedicated her life to education and service. She earned her Master's Degree in Education and spent her career teaching at the Logansport State Hospital, where she retired from teaching the Adult Basic Education program. She was deeply committed to helping others learn and grow, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication. She was past president of the Cass County Retired Teachers Association. On June 1, 2008, Ruby married Roger Ray O. Hinkle in Logansport, Indiana. He preceded her in death on Sept. 14, 2018. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Julia (Dan) Doughman of Hoagland, Indiana; stepdaughter, Jolene (Zeb) Bookmiller of Logansport, Indiana; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Lockhart; sisters, Nancy J. Handy, Esther Handy, Eleanor Cornelius and Miriam Cromer; brother, Eugene Fisher; stepsons, Trey D. Hinkle and Trapper Hinkle; her parents, Lowell A. and Blanche Fisher; one great-grandson, Marcel Lichtsinn. A visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Gundrum Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Doug Thomas officiating. Burial will take place at Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Logansport, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made in Ruby's memory to the Lowell & Blanche Fisher Memorial Fund at Indiana Wesleyan University.
