According to sources, the police officer came across the obstruction while patrolling and directed them to clear the stretch. The situation escalated when one among the youths slapped the ICC, following which police beat him up and took him into custody. It is alleged that the condition of the youth deteriorated and he was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital. This led to an outrage among the locals, who then gheraoed the Soro police station, protesting against alleged police brutality and demanding immediate release of the detainees. The gates of the police station were closed and additional forces deployed to manage the crowd, the sources added.
