Three people were killed and several others injured in a chain-reaction crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 55, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The patrol reported the crash happened at 3:27 p.m. Sunday, just south of the 173.8-mile marker northbound. A 2022 Freightliner Cascadia was traveling north when the driver failed to notice slow-moving traffic in the right lane. The Freightliner struck the rear of a 2025 Toyota Camry, triggering a chain reaction that involved a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder, 2013 Kia Optima, 2017 Dodge Ram 1500, 2015 GMC 1500, 2015 Toyota Corolla, and 2018 Ford F-150. Three fatalities were pronounced at the scene at 3:32 p.m. by emergency medical services personnel.
