(Missouri News Service) – A new report shows more children in Missouri are losing health insurance coverage as Medicaid’s unwinding process continues following the end of pandemic protections.
Researchers noted many Missouri children remain eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) but lost coverage due to system errors during eligibility reviews.
Missouri was among 22 states with a statistically significant increase in uninsured children.
Joan Alker, executive director of the Center for Children and Families, said Medicaid’s impact on children extends well beyond basic health care.
“There’s also plenty of research that makes clear that having Medicaid coverage for children results in better access to care, improved health, educational, and economic outcomes in adulthood,” Alker said.
