['Colin Marrs']
Construction News
Strabag UK has secured the construction contract for SEGRO’s Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) at Radlett in Hertfordshire.
The scheme is expected to remove up to 1,800 HGV journeys from UK roads daily, according to SEGRO.
VolkerFitzpatrick is delivering the rail infrastructure, including a 6,000-tonne jacked box underbridge that was installed during an eight-day blockade over Christmas 2024.
Ian Burford, technical director at Strabag’s UK building arm, said the project would play a major role in reducing emissions and congestion by shifting freight from road to rail.
Charles Blake, senior director for national markets at SEGRO, said Strabag’s appointment marked a “vital next phase” of the project.
