The 140-bedroom Riviera Hotel in Torquay went to court and sued local building firm Connell Construction (South West) Ltd after being overcharged for a massive renovation project. Powis Hotels Ltd claimed the builder and its owner Christopher Connell deliberately overcharged for work by inflating invoices. Mr Powis added: "We had to spend £200k to get a civil prosecution, won our case but got nothing back." The case relates to a huge renovation project at the Riviera Hotel in Belgrave Road.
