Two major flood protection projects in the Finger Lakes region are receiving a combined $4.5 million in state funding to help communities prepare for severe weather and rising water risks. As part of a $30 million statewide initiative tied to the 2022 Environmental Bond Act, the Village of Waterloo and the City of Canandaigua will each launch infrastructure upgrades aimed at reducing flood damage and improving climate resilience. In Waterloo, $1.93 million will go toward upgrading the village’s eastern storm sewer system. Canandaigua will receive $2.65 million for its Sucker Brook Flood Resiliency Implementation project. The funding will support stream enhancements and flood control infrastructure to better protect neighborhoods and businesses along its path.
