It follows opposition in Weston to plans to make the town more welcoming to refugees and people fleeing persecution. In August, the town council was advised by its Council of Sanctuary Start and Finish Group to not proceed with plans following opposition from residents. A spokesperson for the protest said: “Over 200 of us stood strong in March and stopped the council from sneaking through a plan to make Weston a ‘City of Sanctuary’ for asylum seekers. “The pressure from that day has forced the council to vote once again and this time- we can beat it. “This is the last chance to reverse the City Of Sanctuary motion and save our town from dangerous policies.
