Letter: Well done to all those involved in giving Birnbeck Pier a £5m lifeline
[]
Weston Mercury | News
Efforts paid off with an eleventh-hour deal after North Somerset councillors worked together to save Weston’s historic Birnbeck Pier, which put our seaside resort on the map for generations to come.
As a fine testament to Victorian engineering, Birnbeck Pier first opened to the public in 1867.
Victorian Birnbeck Pier was once a popular destination for holidaymakers with fond memories, offering funfairs, amusement rides, and steamer ferries to the island.
By 1994, Birnbeck Pier had to be closed to the public for safety reasons.
I’m sure, now Weston-super-Mare’s historic Birnbeck Pier has been given a £5m lifeline, it will be full steam ahead to start work on it.
