The Hatchery Pond overseen by the North Shore Anglers and Hunters Conservation Association has undergone a major cleanup to prepare it for the raising of new fry in the new year. Morris Sanftenberg Construction brought in an excavator and a bulldozer to clean out the pond, and work was also carried out on the docks and pipe system. Officials say every few years the vegetation needs to be removed from the walleye rearing ponds, so the bottom and sides get scraped out and recontoured, so the fry don’t get trapped in holes or vegetation when they drain the water to retrieve the them in the spring.
