FLINTSTONE [mdash] Shirely J. Smith, age 91, of Flintstone, Md., passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in Cumberland, Md.
Born Sunday, July 8, 1934, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late James Abraham and Margaret Anna Schurg Stokes.
Shirley attended Flintstone Schools.
She was a member of Fairview Christian Church.
She worked in a variety of positions, which include being a cook for many years at Shipways and a baker for many years at Weaver's Restaurant in Hancock, Md.
She also worked in the garment industry for Lions Sewing in Everett, Pa. and was a house cleaner for many years.
She enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Shirley is survived by one son, Jim Smith of Artemas, Pa.; three grandchildren, Jeannie Pryor of Artemas, Pa., Garry Roberts, Jr. of Little Orleans, Md., and Charles Vanmeter of Cumberland, Md.; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Pryor of Alaska, Linsey Pryor of Artemas, Pa.; one great-great granddaughter, Nora Shepherd of Artemas, Pa.; three sisters, Janet Stokes, Jeannette Miller, and Patricia Leitzen; two brothers, Robert Wayne Stokes and Irvin Stokes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband George Smith; two daughters, Linda Shepherd, and Karen Vanmeter; one grandson, David Vanmeter; four brothers, James, William, Upton, and Kenneth Stokes; and one sister Dora Ann Bishop.
Services will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Christian Church, 1757 Crooked Run Rd, Artemas, PA with one-hour prior visitation.
Reverend Milton Morris will officiate.
Burial will follow at the Fairview Christian Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Shirley's name can be made to American Breast Cancer Foundation, American Heart Association, Fairview Christian Church, and Little Orleans and Flintstone Fire Department.
Arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, MD 21750.
