Garmire has been setting FKTs for more than a decade, with career highlights including unsupported records on the John Muir Trail, Long Trail, Colorado Trail, Wonderland Trail, and Arizona Trail. A standard thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail generally takes about five months to complete. He completed a Calendar Year Triple Crown in 2016, which involved tackling the Appalachian Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, and the Pacific Crest Trail within a 12 month period.
