Atlantic Storms Shift Course, Sparing East CoastAccording to Bloomberg, two storms brewing in the Atlantic are expected to veer away from the US East Coast, potentially avoiding a direct impact on the shoreline. The first storm is Tropical Storm Imelda, currently packing winds of 40 mph (64 km/h) as it moves through the Bahamas—approximately 355 miles from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The presence of these tropical systems also heightens risks for rip currents and hazardous surf conditions along affected coastlines. Bermuda has issued a tropical storm watch as Humberto’s outer bands may brush against its shores in coming days. This year’s Atlantic hurricane season has seen nine named storms thus far since it began six months ago; typically by now there would be around ten named systems recorded.
