China’s LNG Imports Decline Amid Strong Domestic SupplyAccording to Bloomberg, China’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports are set to fall significantly this September, marking a continued trend of reduced purchases. The country is projected to import approximately 5.4 million tons of LNG this month, which represents a staggering 22% decrease compared to the same period last year. This decline marks the eleventh consecutive month of year-on-year reductions. The drop in demand can be attributed largely to an increase in domestic gas production and steady pipeline supplies from Central Asia and Russia. Furthermore, China has recently entered into preliminary agreements with Russia for a new pipeline set for construction next decade—this could further limit its future imports.
