CUMBERLAND [mdash] Stella Helene Grove, 97, went to her heavenly home on Sept. 15, 2025, surrounded by her children and caregiver/friend. She was the daughter of the late Warren E. Growden and Frances E. (Brant) Growden. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; sister, Betty Deremer; and brother, Elwood Growden; daughter-in-law, Nilufer Grove. She is survived by a daughter, Ramoma (John) Emerick, Corriganville, Md.; Don Grove, Rawlings; granddaughters, Misty Humbertson and Brittany Hampton, Cumberland; grandsons, Patrick (Stacey) Grove, Waxhaw, N.C., and Casey Grove, Charlotte, N.C.; great-granddaughters, Kylie (Zach) McCracken, Casper, Wyo., and Anna Hampton, Cumberland; great-grandsons, Colin, Eli, Liam and Theo Grove, Waxhaw, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. Helene was a wonderful human being and always had a smile on her face and a story to tell. She was loved by many. She was a devoted wife, nurturing mother, loving grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Her Christian faith was strong and carried her through the difficult times in her life. She loved family get-togethers, sharing good food with plenty of laughter and stories. She was a lifelong member of Centenary United Methodist Church and was very active in the church and a member of the choir. Her children were so proud of her when she made a new life for herself after her husband of 40 years passed away suddenly in 1991. She became active in several clubs, including the Garden Club and the Salvation Army Auxiliary. She also became a hospice volunteer, reaching out to bereaved spouses and relatives. Helene also got into water aerobics at ACM and really enjoyed the fellowship and exercise. Special thanks to the staff at the Commons, assisted living facility, the nurse at Cumberland Healthcare, her devoted caregivers, Donna, Virginia, Rita, Jan, Judy and UPMC Hospice for their care and love. The family very much appreciated the respect shown and care given to their mother. A celebration of life will be held sometime in late September or early October. Details for the service will be forthcoming. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Centenary United Methodist Church.
