The walkway crossing the weir links the lock with paths heading towards Abbey Meadows and the open air swimming pool. Mr Greenaway said: "As many of us know, the Environment Agency recently discovered some structural issues on the Abingdon Weir during a routine inspection. "That's a reasonable concern (and all these things are in the hands of central government who control the budgets), but the Abingdon Weir is slightly different. "As always, this is an Environment Agency piece of infrastructure and it's within their powers and budget to fix it." It is understood that Benson Weir walkway has been closed since 2023 and is not due to reopen until December 2025.
