Algeria’s ambassador to Lebanon, Kamel Bouchama, criticized US President Donald Trump during a cultural conference in Beirut, calling him a “deranged cowboy.” ”The remarks came during a ceremony held by the Lebanese Writers’ Union, the Algerian Embassy in Lebanon, and the Cultural Platform of the Association for Specialization and Scientific Guidance. The conference was titled “Lebanon and Algeria: A Bright History and Illuminated Present.”Bouchama said Trump is a “madman who should be in a mental hospital,” while noting that he still controls the world’s most powerful country. Algerian political activist Oualid Kebir wrote on X that the statements come at a time of growing US-Algeria relations. Kebir noted that the previous day, US presidential advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf in Washington, a meeting seen as a sign of enhanced political dialogue.
