Salem - Jolene (O'Brien) O'Leary, 88, of Salem, NH, passed away on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025 Jolene was born at home in Stonington, Maine. She moved with her family to Malden, MA where she grew up, graduated high school, met her husband Jim, bought her first home and where she and Jim raised their four boys. Jolene was the heart of her family. She and Jim hosted family dinners, each featured some new recipe that she came across, finished off with a delicious dessert. She was adventurous and curious, always open to new experiences and meeting interesting people. You might have found her heading out to learn to square dance with Jim and the boys in tow; buying a piano on a whim and taking lessons; researching her family lineage back to the Mayflower; baking pies for their local church group; or writing stories about growing up in Stonington. Jolene always wanted more out of life. She wasn't content with just playing bocce and being in the book club, so Jolene and Jim became world travelers. China, Russia, Spain, Ireland, Italy— If the travel group was going on a trip, she wanted to be there. Jolene never said no to an adventure. Jolene will be deeply missed by her beloved sons, James and his wife Amy of Windham, NH; Michael and his partner, Megan of Portland, ME; Mark and his wife Audra of Newbury, MA; Thomas and his wife Katrina of Rowley, MA; her sister, Judy of Billerica, MA; her seven grandchildren, Blanca, Erin, Elisabeth, Jack, Nick, Jared and John. Jolene was predeceased by her parents, William and Gertrude O'Brien, her sisters Sheila and Mary Jane and her loving husband of 62 years, James O'Leary, Jr. Arrangements will be private for the family.
