United States Antimony Corporation announced on Tuesday that it had secured a five-year contract with the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency for antimony metal ingots to be used as part of the stockpile. The contract is worth up to $245,000,000. Defense officials have identified antimony, which is used in munitions and batteries, as well as flame retardants and military grade compounds, among other things, as a potential vulnerability within the U.S. industry base. The company, USAC, operates North America's two only antimony smelters. The contract is the result of months of negotiations, and it builds on an increasing partnership between USAC (the United States Air Force) and the Department of Defense which accelerated at the end of 2024.
