The proposed York Street Interchange aims to tackle congestion on major roads in Belfast, including the Westlink,M1, M2 and M3A long-awaited project to remedy the Northern Ireland’s busiest road junction could still be in limbo a decade from now, it has been warned as estimated costs continue to spiral. “I have scheduled a meeting with my officials to discuss the next steps for the York Street Interchange project,” Ms Kimmins said. “The estimated cost of the York Street Interchange scheme is in the region of £120m - £160m (based on 2015 prices) however this estimate would be subject to the high levels of inflation and cost increases experienced by the construction sector in recent years. Therefore, I have asked my officials to review possible alternative funding methods which could facilitate scheme progression. “We will need to see how the prioritisation plan progresses, but funding is going to be a major issue.
