GENESEE COUNTY, MI – Police have identified Thomas Jacob Sanford as the gunman who opened fire during a worship service Sunday at a church with hundreds in attendance.
Renye, flanked by other law enforcement officials, provided additional details about a shooting that left two churchgoers dead.
Grand Blanc Township police were called around 10:25 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4285 McCandlish Road, for a report of a shooting.
According to Renye, Sanford was “neutralized” by law enforcement at 10:33 a.m. in the church parking lot.
Sunday’s shooting has received a large amount of support — both at the scene and in response across social media.
