According to the latest statistics published by the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), 2017 promises to continue the trend of steadily increasing visitor numbers. According to the BTB, Belize welcomed 230,151 overnight visitors in the first six months of 2017, a 7.8% increase over the same period in 2016. This follows an overall increase of 13% in overnight visitor numbers in the entire year of 2016, making Belize the fastest-growing tourism market in the entire Caribbean. Breaking the numbers down further, April 2017 visitor numbers were up 24.2% over the year prior while June saw an impressive 10% growth in 2017 versus the same month the year prior. The government of Belize imposes no restrictions on foreign ownership of property, and property taxes are assessed at just 1.5% of the undeveloped value of the land.
