Gloria Rae (West) Canady, 89, of Kokomo, Indiana, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 18, 2025.
She was born in Evarts, Kentucky, on Aug. 10, 1936. She married Charles Morris Canady in Pennington Gap, Virginia, on Nov. 27, 1954. They were married 61 years.
Gloria was a graduate of Evarts High School and Indiana University Kokomo. She received her master's degree in 1975. Gloria taught 2nd grade at Bunker Hill Elementary and Maconaquah Elementary for 19 years. She really enjoyed her career as a teacher. Gloria loved all her students and their families. She expressed she never had a day she dreaded going to her classroom.
Gloria was a cub scout leader for several years. She taught Sunday school for many years and was junior church director. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church in Zephyrhills, Florida, and Crossroads Community Church in Kokomo, Indiana. She loved both her church families very much.
Gloria loved to sew, as well as crochet and knit for Christmas boxes at the Kokomo Rescue Mission. She volunteered at the Kokomo Rescue Mission cleaning toys for Christmas boxes. Gloria and her husband, Charlie, did lots of woodworking projects for relatives and families.
Gloria is survived by her son, Charles "Chuck" (Marsha) Canady Jr.; daughter, Sandra (Mark) Goff; two grandchildren, Adam and Emily Goff; two step-grandchildren, Wade and Ryan Adams, and many other members of her family, whom she loved very much.
Along with her husband of 61 years, Charles, Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Roxie (Kelly) West; one son, Danny Ray Canady; one sister, Ann Lou Fox; and one grandson, Daniel Ray Canady.
A funeral service celebrating Gloria's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2025, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastors Dennis Hart and Luke Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, at the funeral home.
