The Members’ Competition sets Poetry Society Members the task of writing a poem or poems on a theme chosen by a leading poet. In the most recent competition, poet Andre Bagoo selected members’ poems on the theme of ‘Bacchanal’. All poems published in Poetry News are also eligible for a further Poetry Society prize. Poetry News Autumn 2025 competition: ‘Clearing’Our next members’ poems competition will be on the theme of ‘Clearing’ (poets are welcome to take this as a verb or a noun), chosen by our judge Helen Farish. The winning poems are published in Poetry News and their authors win a selection of poetry books and entry into a further Poetry Society prize.
