The Antonov An-225, known in Ukrainian as Mriya, meaning “dream,” holds the title of the world’s largest operational cargo aircraft. The plane is 84 meters long, 18 meters tall, and has an incredible wingspan of 88 meters—almost as tall as a six-story building. Powered by six engines, it is the only aircraft in the world with a cargo capacity of 250 tons and a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tons. In recent years, the An-225 took on South America’s largest cargo mission, transporting massive power plant boilers from Chile to Bolivia.
