Replacing hundreds of miles of aging cast iron pipe will take Fort Worth decades
['Tahera Rahman']
NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
According to the City of Fort Worth, cast iron pipes are to blame for at least 85% of water main breaks, despite only making up a fraction of the city's entire pipe system.
That's why they're trying to replace all 730 miles of cast iron pipe with newer materials.
Gugliuzza said they want to replace 20 miles of cast iron pipe annually, making this "probably a 20-or-more-year project."
"Just believe they’re working on it, making things better.
I believe they’re working as fast as they can," he said.
