Replacing / Refurbishing Century Old Oak Floors
[]
FineWoodworking
One of the last projects to modernize (without changing the original character of the home) is to replace the 2nd floor tongue and groove oak floors.
The floors are in bad shape, spongy in spots, squeaky, likely sanded a few times and have small chips in places.
The oak is fairly blond and I would prefer a darker colour which I think would help hide some repair sections.
I’m definitely going to power nail in places (assuming my nailer will penetrate the oak and I can find the joists).
Will a stain take to a glue finish?
