During his visit, Prosecutor Brammertz and his interlocutors discussed the OTP’s continuous commitment to accounting for fugitives suspected of participating in crimes committed during the Genocide. Prosecutor Brammertz and Prosecutor General Habyarimana discussed the OTP’s critical role in supporting the NPPA’s investigations and identified priority areas for future cooperation on joint projects. Notably, Prosecutor General Habyarimana briefed Prosecutor Brammertz about the NPPA’s work on over 50 new indictments and requested the OTP’s detailed support. In addition, Prosecutor Brammertz also engaged in high-level discussions on extraditions with Minister of Justice Ugirashebuja and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nduhungirehe. The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) was established by UN Security Council Resolution 1966 (2010) to complete the remaining work of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia after the completion of their respective mandates.
