The Steamship Authority is our lifeline, and one of the most important entities for Islanders. And last week, amid changing tides at the ferry line, new General Manager Alex Kryska made his first public appearance at the helm of the organization. But Kryska’s first appearance with the Steamship Authority board was far from a welcoming ceremony. Kryska was selected over Mark Amundsen, Steamship chief operating officer and a finalist for general manager, in November. His previous role before the Steamship Authority was as chief operating officer of San Francisco–based ferry operation PROP.
