LARGE crowds of male migrants queued up to get paperwork in Spain after the country’s socialist PM offered to legalise the status of some half a million foreign nationals. Socialist Sánchez argues that his plan is needed to combat workforce shortages, and boost his country’s ailing economy. Vox spokeswoman Pepa Millán said the plan “attacks our identity” and vowed to challenge the policy in the Supreme Court. Popular Party (PP), Spain‘s main opposition party also lashed out at the government, saying that the move would encourage further illegal immigration. It comes as Spain’s Canary Islands grapple with thousands of people arriving on their shores in perilous small boats.
