The Kabyle Government in Exile submitted a formal request to the United States-led Board of Peace on Thursday, asking the body to engage in international mediation efforts to resolve the Kabyle people’s conflict with Algeria over their right to self-determination in what the government described as the historic first such appeal to the newly established panel. The submission, sent from London and Washington, asks the Board of Peace created by US President Donald Trump in January for assistance in opening dialogue and pursuing a peaceful resolution grounded in international law. Anavad, which represents the self-declared Federal Republic of Kabylia, said its letter outlines decades of peaceful political mobilization, repeated but unsuccessful attempts at dialogue with Algerian authorities, and what it described as increasing repression of Kabyle political, cultural, and religious life. Kabyle Government in Exile President Ferhat Mehenni said the move reflects a continued commitment to non-violence and dialogue. He underscored that the Kabyle people seek “a just and durable resolution based on dialogue, dignity, and international law,” rather than confrontation.
