The contest was held by the Healthy Communities Okaloosa County Health Improvement Partnership in recognition of October being “Pedestrian Safety Month” in the county. Students were asked to create a poster showing how they get to school safely. The four poster categories are elementary school, middle school, high school, VPK, and Committee Choice Award (students from Silver Sands and Richbourg). The top goal of the Healthy Communities Okaloosa County Health Improvement Partnership consists of reducing the number of emergency department visits from motor vehicle traffic related injuries to pedestrians and pedalcyclists from 12.3 per 100,000 to 11 per 100,000 by the end of 2027 in Okaloosa County.
