There’s two popular scams the Texas State Securities Board says are targeting Texans. One is called a romance scam, where someone messages you on a dating app, the other is called a pig-butchering scam, where someone “accidentally” texts your number, or sends you a message on social media. Both have the same goal of getting money from victims for “investments.” The TSSB says there’s countries abroad who build entire cities and call centers with the purpose of doing online scams. He says scammers usually avoid video calls, have bad grammar, and tell stories that don’t add up.
