Ministers are holding a series of meetings in parliamentary committees to present the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council. Many MEPs stressed the need for adequate funding for culture and media in the EU’s next long-term budget. Several MEPs stressed the need to protect those fighting organised crime, strengthen action on deradicalisation and safeguard data protection. Other priorities are the 28th regime – a new set of company rules applicable across the EU, EU rules on patents, and a copyright framework adapted to new technologies. Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna stressed the importance of EU enlargement as a strategic investment in the EU’s future.
