Morocco’s Criminal Investigation Unit has opened a judicial investigation into suspected corruption and smuggling-related offenses involving 24 individuals, including police and customs officials, National Police (DGSN) announced on Thursday. In a statement, DGSN said the suspects include six police officers, six Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST) agents, and two customs officers. The alleged scheme involved using influence to facilitate the passage of goods without customs inspections in return for financial payments. Investigations have identified several individuals who are believed to have benefited from the alleged collusion to bypass customs controls. The suspects were remanded in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
