ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has praised Ekurhuleni Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza’s crackdown on officials implicated at the Madlanga commission of inquiry. Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday (29 January), Mbalula said where there is prima facie evidence of wrongdoing, authorities and law enforcement agencies must act immediately. “If there is prima facie evidence that the law has been broken, we don’t have to wait for the outcomes of the commission. “That’s why we are very happy when Ekurhuleni is taking the steps that it does under Doctor Xhakaza about all those who are implicated in the Madlanga [commission] in as far as it affects the municipality of Ekurhuleni. In a statement on Thursday, President Cyril Ramaphosa revealed that the Madlanga commission had indeed found prima facie evidence against Mashazi, Mkhwanazi, Gxasheka and Behari.
