Luckily the Arts Club itself is much busier as one of the great recent, word-of-mouth successes Meryl Streek is in town. He has your ears and now he’s going to burn them off with stories from his heart. No fake love songs here for Streek, each track is based very firmly on real life and it’s all the better for it. When they finally get going, it turns out they’ve got their own short-but-sweet theme tune, with a catchy chorus of “YOBS, YOBS, YOBS, YOBS, YOBS…” (you get the idea) and they attack their songs like they’d attack the precarious looking light system. These are songs as an outlet for a man who looks like he would explode if he couldn’t let them out.
