He started as a rookie firefighter and worked his way up to assistant fire chief, serving in that role for eight years. “When I made assistant chief, my former boss, my fire chief had said, ‘Hey, be looking for jobs and just look for those opportunities,’” Rainwater said. Even before he applied for the Marshall job, Rainwater and his wife, Carrie, decided to take a trip to Marshall. Rainwater said he wanted to make sure that if he ended up being hired in Marshall that he would feel at home.
