The producers of S.S. Rajamouli‘s action-adventure epic “Varanasi” have revealed the strategic thinking behind the film’s April 7, 2027 release date and its marketing campaign, which began with a cryptic installation in the titular Indian city.
“Varanasi lies at the heart of this film, so beginning the release conversation from the city itself felt instinctive,” producer Karthikeya tells Variety.
Telugu-language cinema superstar cinema Mahesh Babu leads the cast of “Varanasi” alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
It is the fifth-highest grossing film in the history of Indian cinema.
“Varanasi” reunites the “RRR” helmer with Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravani, who took home the Academy Award for best original song for “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR.”
